Historical and Cultural Transitions

During the day, I looked for examples of transitioning between the historical, socio-econmic conditions of the site.  On Flatbush Avenue, there is a community garden, The Brooklyn Bear’s Community Garden, a nice display of community’s effort to preserve some determination on infill land, that my professor had been an influential advocate for the continuation of  community gardens in New York.
This photographs shows the level of contrast between the 37 story Williamsburgh Savings Bank Building, the gray skyscraper in the far background and the low rise red brick residential buildings in the foreground.  This gives an idea of how the proposed 34 story prefabricated builiding proposed by Ratner would affect the physical conditions of the neighborhood, such as natural sunlight exposure, street scale, property value, etc.  Williamsburgh is the second largest building in Brooklyn and dominated its sky.  The newest development by Ratner will be the tallest prefabricated structure in the world.
